The text on the stone reads: To commemorate the bicentenary of the bridge at Clachan Seil (The Atlantic Bridge) 1792-1992 Lest your tomorrows become, in time, forgotten yesterdays. The Clachan Bridge connects the island of Seil with the Scottish mainland at Clachan south of Oban in Argyll. The bridge was built in 1792 and until the advent of the Skye Bridge was claimed to be the only bridge to "span the Atlantic" hence the name 'The Atlantic Bridge'. It did so only part of the time, however, as when the tide was out it was possible to walk across.
