Mrs. Darbee states that never in her experience was there so much St. Valen- tine's day work done as during the fes- tival just passed. Her staff was rushed both with wholesale and retail orders. F. Bertrand, of the Palace hotel flower store, had the table decorations for the luncheon of the Laurel Hall Club, a women's organization, well known in San Francisco. Spring flowers were used. In the adjoining room, at the Palace, there was a big luncheon of a business men's organization, and no flowers were used. The contrast be- tween the flower-bedecked tables and those without flowers was striking. "The women certainly have the good- looking tables," said one visitor, after glancing into both ballrooms. M. M. PORTLAND, ORE, The Market. The trade last week was better than average. Funeral work was the leading factor with the retailers. St. Valen- tine's day business was satisfactory. Tulips and daffodils, the latter both cut and in pot, went well. Violets are scarce and freesias are taking the place of the violets. Various Notes. Charles Kingwell, Eugene, Ore., was a trade visitor last week. He is stock- ing up for his spring business.
