Lymphangitis infection of the leg and foot of a 54 year old woman. Lymphangitis is a bacterial infection of the lymphatic vessels, which carry lymphatic fluid and white blood cells around the body. The infection has caused a characteristic streak of reddening that runs up from the toes to the inflamed leg. The infection started as cellulitis of the toes, which are seen to be inflamed and pussy. Cellulitis is an infection of the connective tissue in the skin. This woman's foot became infected after she ran the London Marathon.
