View S of the Ty Mawr Bronze Age standing stone, 640m NW of Trefignath burial chamber, Holyhead, Anglesey, Wales, UK. Formerly an isolated stone some 9ft () tall standing on a slight rise in pasture, it is now surrounded by a retail park. In 2006-2008 & 2009-2010 the Gwynedd Archaeological Trust carried out excavations ahead of the construction of Parc Cybi on the outskirts of Holyhead. Dramatic finds included a 6,000-year-old Neolithic timber hall (close to Trefignath burial chamber & on the same alignment), Bronze Age burials & cremations, & an Iron Age village. An unexcavated area was left around the standing stone, but a group of Beaker & BA ceremonial monuments were found close by. The stone stands in an undeveloped grassy area within the park with public access via a footpath. The site is in the care of Cadw, this photograph was taken in February 1982.
