The Twenty-third re-stocked the Yorkers with sup-plies, so as to bridge them over to their destination— Shaler being presented with a large pound cake tocarry home to the grandchildren. WDear General Shaler Your kind invitation to be present at the meeting of the Survivorsof your brigade of the good Old Sixth at Gettysburg, on the 12th to 14thinst., gave me profound pleasure, and I should be glad to join you onthat occasion, and meet so many of the Survivors of the gallant Corpswe all loved so well; but I am forced to accept the fact that my days forsuch undertakings are over, and that I must leave such Reunions toyounger men who do not feel the weight of years bearing somewhatheavily upon them. As I cannot be with you, I must beg that you express to my oldcomrades my most hearty good wishes, not only for this occasion, butfor all things connect
