The drum, suspended between two cheeks, has no holes for wind booms: the roasting spindle is operated with a single wind boom on the starboard cheek, which engages a gear wheel with a pawl. In the middle there is a strut with two wooden catches, which engage in the gear part of the drum to prevent it from rolling back. An extra sprocket with catch is fitted against the port cheek.
