Forthe general population the median age is approxi-mately 24—that is to say, there are approximately asmany people over 24 as there are under 24; for theinsane enumerated it is about 44. I0IO The age distribution of the insane in hospitalsis indicated graphically by Diagram 2, the bars onthe left indicating the number of insane enumeratedin each age group on January 1, 1910, and the more darkly shaded bars on the right indicating the num-ber admitted in each age group during the year 1910. The insane admitted in any one year are naturallyconsiderably younger than the insane present on agiven date. Of the insane admitted in 1910, percent were under 25 years of age, as compared with cent of the insane enumerated on January 1, median age for the former was about 39, whilefor the latter it was, as previously noted, about 44.
