NBR 0-6-0 steam locomotive of the LNER J33 class


36 0-6-0 tender engines for secondary main line goods traffic were built to this design at Cowlairs between 1883 & 1887. Similar to those built by Drummond (see class J034). NBR nos 566-573, 112, 150, 178, 484 (built 1883-4); 580-585 (built 1884); 80-83, 85, 148 (built 1885); 21, 24, 137, 140, 160, 170 (built 1885-6); 156, 159, 168, 169, 249 & 269 (built 1887). They were classed J33 by the LNER 159 was built in 1887, and renumbered 9159 by the LNER. The entire class was rebuilt with new boilers between 1908 and 1913, but their external appearance barely changed. Withdrawals started in 1924, and only Nos. 9249 & 9159 were still operating at the end of 1932. These last two J33s were withdrawn in 1938.
