Fisher in the Pangalanes canal, close to Manakara, Madagascar Island. The Antemoro ethnic group lives in the Pangalanes channel. The Pangalanes Channel is a natural channel that the French settlers made navigable and which is divided into North Pangalanes and South Pangalanes. The northern Pangalanes extends between Tamatave and Mananjary and is inhabited by various ethnic groups, among which the Betsimaraka stand out. The South Pangalanes is only navigable in traditional canoes (although some try to venture with motor boats) and extends between the cities of Mananjary, Manakara and Vohipeno. The Pangalanes channel has a total distance from north to south of more than 600 kilometers and economically supports the entire central-east coast of Madagascar.
