The HMMWVs will be used to support both Peace Keeping efforts abroad and to counter internal security issues, such as the transport of illicit materials across national borders. Recognizing that developing the skills needed to maintain older HMMWVs is just as important as having the equipment itself, planners from the United States and Senegal jointly developed a training program to pass these skills to Senegalese mechanics. This engagement was the first in a series of planned courses of instruction meant to achieve the goal of developing a cadre of Senegalese HMMWV technicians.
