Verona, Veneto, Italy. View from terrace of the Castel San Pietro to the Ponte Pietra spanning the River Adige.

The city of Verona, capital of the province of the same name, was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. The Roman bridge known as the Ponte di Pietra, formerly the Pons Marmoreus, was completed in 100 BC. Four of its arches were destroyed by the retreating German army in World War II and rebuilt in 1957 using original materials.
