Shadow of Lunar Module, Apollo 11

The black shadow of the Apollo 11 lunar module is silhouetted against the moon's surface in this photograph taken from inside the module. Impressions in the lunar soil made by the lunar boots of the two astronauts are clearly visible. This photograph shows in fine detail the impressions in the lunar soil made by astronauts Neil A. Armstrong and Edwin E. Aldrin Jr. during their lunar surface extravehicular activity (EVA). The Lunar Module and its shadow are visible. While astronauts Armstrong, commander, and Aldrin, lunar module pilot, descended in the Lunar Module (LM) "Eagle" to explore the Sea of Tranquility region of the moon, astronaut Michael Collins, command module pilot, remained with the Command and Service Modules (CSM) "Columbia" in lunar orbit.
