Anembassy was sent from Japan to Corea to exactsatisfaction for the firing upon the Japaneseman-of-war Unyokuan by Corean soldiers,and settle all the differences between the twocountries. It was entirely successful, and con-cluded a treaty of peace February 27th, whichprovided for a full restoration of intercoursebetween the two countries, and which it ishoped may prove the beginning of a changewhich will eventually open Corea to the JAPANESE BATH. Much delicacy and firmness were required ofthe Japanese envoys to gain their end. Thefleet with the embassy arrived at Fusan, the oldJapanese station in the south of Corea, Janu-ary 15th, and on the 23d sailed for the mouthof the river on which the capital of Corea,Seoul, is situated. On the 10th of Februarythe envoy and his suite landed in Kokwa,and took up their quarters in the principaltown of the island, Kokwa, or Kan fa. underan escort of detachments of ma-rines from the vessels of the fleet. With verylittle delay they were visited by two officersappointed to receive them, Ji Shinken and In-jisho, the former of whom was announced asbidding the highest rank in Corea.
