Now is the time for them to make the shoots that will tell in the size of the plant next November. Watch them closely so that they can be pinched back at every opportunity as it is strong healthy growths and plenty of them that are needed for fine specimens. They. This must be removed, allowing the main lateral shoots to remain and grow. Care is necessary with this part of the work as many varieties throw buds both at the center and sides and when this is the case it becomes neces- sary to work carefully in removing the side shoots so as to jje sure of leaving the right one that will develop into growth and not flower.
