Rostov Veliky is a Russian city in the Yaroslavl region, located on the shore of Lake Nero. This is one of the oldest Russian cities - it has been known since 862. In 991, the city became a diocesan center. In 1137, during the reign of Yuri Dolgoruky, Rostov was named the Great. During the Soviet years, Rostov was included in the Golden Ring of Russia tourist the second half of the 17th century, at the behest of Metropolitan Jonah Sysoevich, a new bishop's court was erected in Rostov - the residence of the metropolitans. For 20 years, a complex of several temples and chambers was built, surrounded by a high fortress wall with 11 towers. Nowadays, the former residence is the Rostov Kremlin Museum-Reserve.
