Ifthe surgeon prefer, the muscles may be divided by a transverse circularcut at the base of the skin flap. The periosteal cuff may be omitted. The so-called racket incisionand the so-called lanceolate incis-ion are obtained by making a lon-gitudinal incision upwards froma transverse circular and an ob-lique circular incision, respect-ively. The additional cut makesit more easy to lift up the longitudinal incisions addedto a transverse circular incisionmake two equal, rectangularflaps; if added to the obliquecircular cut, they make unequalrectangular flaps.
