Resinicium bicolor fungus, SEM
Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of fruiting bodies of the fungus Resinicium bicolor amongst woody debris. The small fruiting bodies may be either star-shaped or spherical. Both are seen here. R. bicolor is mainly found on conifers, where it can be pathogenic. It is one of the first organisms to decompose wood due to its ability to digest and utilise lignin. Collected from the Northern Black Forest, Germany. Magnification: x3500 when printed at 15cm wide.
