Commence by gradually withholdingthe water supply and reducing the fire heat, allowing thenight temperature to drop several degrees every few nights,with corresponding falls in the daytime. After a few weeksor a month of this treatment, a night temperature a littlebelow freezing may be reached, and practically all growthwill have ceased. Give air as required to keep the housescool day or night, particularly if a warm spell intervenes, andkeep the houses dry. This cold treatment may be continuedfor a few weeks or longer, as occasion requires, the plantsbeing kept dry in the meantime. When it is desired to startthem into growth again, cut them down to within a foot or soof the ground and water the beds thoroughly for several daysuntil the ground is well soaked.
