John "Iron-Mad" Wilkinson (1728 – 1808) was an English industrialist who pioneered the use and manufacture of cast iron and cast-iron goods in the Industrial Revolution. His monument, made from cast-iron, is inscribed as follows:- 'JOHN WILKINSON, IRON MASTER; WHO DIED XIV JULY, MDCCCVIII, AGED LXXX YEARS: HIS DIFFERENT WORKS, IN VARIOUS PARTS OF THE KINGDOM, ARE LASTING TESTIMONIES OF HIS UNCEASING LABOURS; HIS LIFE WAS SPENT IN ACTION FOR THE BENEFIT OF MAN; AND, AS HE PRESUMED HUMBLY TO HOPE, TO THE GLORY OF GOD. LABORE ET HONORE.'
