United Kingdom /Scotland/ / Best of British/ Makers of raincoats/ In 1823, Charles Macintosh developed his now iconic rubberised fabric, which has been used in Mackintosh coats ever since. The coats began to be manufactured by the company Traditional Weatherwear in 1965, under the initial directorship of Robin Veitch and Geoff Talmadge. The current factory, in Cumbernauld, Scotland, has been used since 1967. The company changed its name officially to Mackintosh in December 2003 and opened a flagship store on Mount St in London’s Mayfair district in 2010, and a Tokyo store in Aoyama district in 2012.
