Dutton was boin in Chenango Co., N. Y.,April 27, 1814. His parents, Robert and Sarah (Fowler)Dutton, were of ilnglish extraction; lived to raise a familyof seven children. After the death of the elder Dutton,George witii his mother moved to Detroit, wiicre he be-came acquainted with and married Miss Sarah Horner. Inthe .spring of they removed to Ionia County. Fiveyears later exchanged for one hundred and sixty acres ofwild land on section 22, the present home. The town hadnot yet received a name, and Mr. Dutton being elected
