On 18 September 2016 Ukraine's new WBO Cruiserweight World Champion Alexander Usyk arrived to Kiev from Warsaw after winning against Krzysztof Glowacki in Gdansk on 17 September. Usyk was met like a national hero, with his coach American James Ali Bashir. Usyk stated he would like to start Cruiserweight belts unification from fighting WBC champion Briton Tony Bellew.

London 2012 Olympic Champion Usyk was met like a national hero, with his coach American James Ali Bashir (Left to Usyk) sharing the highest praise. Usyk stated he would like now to unify belts, setting his sights first of all on the Briton Tony Bellew's WBC belt won on 29 May against Johannesbourg based Congolese Ilunga Makabu in a clash for the title vacated by the Russian WBC Champion Grigory Drozd, who took the time to heal his back injury.
