Turmeric. Coloured historical artwork of turmeric (Curcuma longa). Flowers are seen at the top of the stem at upper left, as well as at upper right. The root-like rhizomes (brown) are dried and used as a seasoning and yellow colouring for food. This artwork is from a German encyclopaedia called the Bilder-Atlas that was published in 1860.
