The hair for striping pencils should be at least two anda quarter inches long—if too long the hairs will droop orsag down, and if too short, a straight line cannot be made. Ox-hair pencils, also used in striping, are made from thehair which grows in the ear of the animal, and these areconsidered excellent for striping wagon gears, particularlywhere heavy color is used. The pencil is held betweenthe thumb and fore-finger and the other fingers act as agauge or guide. During the striping, the wheel is keptrevolving by the left hand, while the pencil is held sta-tionary in the right hand. The pencil will require refillingfrequently, and care should be taken that this is done uni-formly. ZINC PALETTES.
