VOCAL CORD, DRAWING

Vocal cords are located in the larynx and produce vocal sounds. While at rest (inhalation), the two cords form a V. At work (expiration), the V closes, creating a vibration which creates the sound. Vocal cords can become infected (laryngitis) or grow tumors, both of which after their movement and thus their production of sound. Here, vocal cords opened and then closed.
