It should be stated that by counting forward in each of the givenexamples from the initial date (4 Ahau 8 Cumhu) the nuni]>er of daysindicated by the numeral series we willreach the terminal date. Our next reference is to the inscription onStela A, Quirigua, the drawing of which isgiven in plate vil, part 11 of volume Ii,Maudslays Archaeology (our plate Lxxv). In this instance the numerals attached tothe cycle, katun, and ahau, and the month fig. hs. numerals f( .r the terminal date of the initial series are of the ordinary form, and those attached to the cliuen, day and theday of the terminal date are either face forms or unusual forms.
