Wooden cross, on a mass grave for fallen German soldiers at the battle of Tannenberg, August / September 1914. Erected after the victorious battle, lead by Paul von Hindenburg, against invading Russian troops into East Prussia, in 1914. The grave and cross are located in Hohenstein (east Prussia), at the original side of the famous Tannenberg Memorial, now under Polish government control. The Tannenberg Memorial was a monument to the German soldiers of the second Battle of Tannenberg in 1914 which was named after the medieval battle of the same name.
