'John Henry Newman', 1844. From a chalk drawing by George Richmond (1809-1896). John Henry Newman (1801-1890) also know as Cardinal Newman and the Blessed John Henry Newman. Newman wished to return the Church of England to many Catholic beliefs and in 1845 he left the Church of England and was received into the Roman Catholic Church.
