Dedication of Grand Canyon National Park as a Globally Important. On Saturday, September 13, 2014, Grand Canyon National Park dedicated the park as a Globally Important Bird Area as part of its 7th Annual Celebrate Wildlife Day. Dedication presenters from left to right: Grand Canyon Association Executive Director, Susan Schroeder; Grand Canyon National Park Superintendent, Dave Uberuaga, Grand Canyon National Park Chief of Science and Resource Management, Martha Hahn, HawkWatch International Education & Outreach Director, Nikki Wayment, and Arizona Audubon Society Director of Bird Conservation, Tice Supplee. The dedication ceremony for the Globally Important Bird Area designation took place at Yaki Point at 1:30 pm. Globally Important Bird Areas are sites that provide essential habitat for one or more species of birds. Global sites are the highest priority for conservation actions and support species of conservation concern, such as the endangered California condor, threatened Mexican spotted owl, peregrine falcon, and pinyon jay, all found at Grand Canyon.
