Ghislain Bardout is co-founder and leader of the Under The Pole expeditions, which Rolex supports. Bardout developed a special capsule that enables scientists to stay underwater for 72 hours at a time, gathering vital data to protect the oceans. Did you know that our oceans make up 71% of the Earth’s surface but 80% remains unexplored? Join world-famous ocean explorer Ghislain Bardout as he introduces the ‘Heroes of the Oceans’ documentary. Narrated by pioneering oceanographer and marine explorer Sylvia Earle, this film showcases Ghislain and five other marine scientists who are working to expand our knowledge of the oceans and save endangered animals. These scientists have advanced marine conservation around the world, from planting resilient corals on the Great Barrier Reef to advancing diving techniques and studying deep corals in French Polynesia. They've protected the giant manta rays of Peru, and, using sophisticated electronic tagging, monitored, and protected whale sharks. They are discovering unknown coral species in the Chilean fjords of Patagonia and are studying the effect of noise from human activities on whales and dolphins. In conversation with host Corryn Wetzel, Ghislain Bardout will introduce the ‘Heroes of the Oceans’ screening and answers your questions afterwards.
