2nd February 2015 The oldest and highest cinema above sea level in Wales in the United Kingdom is celebrating becoming the United Kingdon Cinema of the year. Two years ago the Market Hall Cinema in Brynmawr was faced with closure when the local authority who owned it threatened to pull the plug because of funding cuts. But local people led by film enthusiast Peter Watkins-Hughes formed a group who now run the cinema. The cinema beat illustrius competition to win the award fending off a cinema in London funded by a russian oligarch. It has shown every oscar winning film and has photographic evidence of one of the worlds rarest films, Mountain Eagle by Alfred Hitchcock being shown there in 1928. Pictured inside the cinema is manager of the Market Cinema Ralph Price who has worked there for 43 years. contact details for Peter Watkins-Hughes 01495 310576 - 07850 371853
