In April 1915 hejoined the Inns ofCourt , from which he received a com-mission in The Buffs. In October 1916 hewent to the Front with his Battalion, and wasattached to the Middlesex Regiment. He waskilled in action at Monchy-le-Preux, on 3 May1917. Popular with his fellow-officers andbeloved by his men, his death was felt as anirreparable loss. He was a man of fine literarytaste, and in his College days a great supporterof a dramatic club for the study of breadth of his interests and sympathies, thewider outlook which much travel in France andGermany had given him, made his friendship aprivilege and a delight.
