Besides these situa-tions they occur under the deltoid and the gluteus maximus, betvveen the lower end of the scapulaand the latissimus dorsi, andin the ham. Morbid Alterations.—Thecontinued irritation of bursasby the pressure that is exercisedupon them, ma}^ cause them toinflame, to enlarge, to becomethickened, or to undergo vari-ous changes in structure. Thisenlargement of the bursae inparticular situations is oftenconnected with special employ-ments, l\y which continuous andsevere pressure is exercisedupon certain parts of the body ;thus frequent kneeling will occasion enlargement of the bursa patellae,hence called housemaids knee. Miners are occasionally subject to anenlargement of tlie bursa lying over the olecranon, hence called minerselbow (Fig. 501); and in any situation a new bursa ma}
