The old viaduct which carried Nelsonstreet, Atlanta, Ga., over the yards ofthe Southern Railway has just been re-placed by a modern reinforced concretearch roadway which has proved to be amost happy combination of strength, util-ity, and beauty. The viaduct starts from a concreteabutment at the property line of Madi-son avenue and rises gradually for adistance of approximately 355 feet atthe rate of 2 feet in 100 to a point overthe middle of the main line tracks, fromwhich it drops for 125 feet at the samerate to an abutment at the Elliott streetend. The total length from abutment toabutment is 479 feet 4% inches. The structure is made up of ten archesvarying in span from 20 to 75 feet. Theentire width is 50 feet. Of this width32 feet is used as a roadway on each sideof which is a sidewalk 9 feet wide. Theclear headroom under the arches over themain tracks is 21 feet and over the tracksof the freight y
