M. Shotwell examined Blockhouse on Feb. 26, 1919. It was one of six blockhouses built at Verst 455 by and Co. B., 310th Engineers to secure the railroad and siding. Clearings around the blockhouse commanded the railroad, and additional clearings in the forest provided defense. Each block house had machine guns and thick log walls for protection.
