Method of Cleaning Clogged Lime Water Supply Line at Cincinnati Filter Plant It was discovered during the spring of 1917 that the 20 and24-in. cast iron pipe which conveys the lime water from thesaturators in the chemical house to chamber B near thehead house of the filtration plant of Cincinnati, O., was evi-dently clogged with sediment preventing the required amountof lime water being delivered to this chamber. Examinationwas first made of the 20 and 24-in. line in the chemical house. Movable Section of Metal Irr is handled by the filters more readily than the effluent fromthe plain Imhoff tank. These experiences have taught that sludge can be muchmore readily digested by discharging the crude sewage intothe sludge chamber than into the sedimentation chamber, and that foaming is prevented. Imhoff tank designs may beapplicable to the conditions in Germany where there may beonly slight amounts of grease and oils present or where thesewage is very stale, but according to my experience, theyare not adapted to the conditions in Wisconsin, where thesewage is fresh and contains greasy matters. Metal Flume Has Removable Section forPassage of Dredge An interesting feature of a recent Armco flume installationin Cameron County Water Improvement District No. 2, at SanBenito, Tex., is the provision made for the passage of adredge. The flume carries high line water over a low linecanal, which is fed directly from the river to gravity, and asa result
