Lieutenant Allan Winslow, the first American trained flier to shoot down an enemy airman, is shown standing next to his aircraft at an Aviation Field near Toul, France on May 5, 1918. Tragically, Lieutenant Winslow was killed in an aerial battle in Picardy on August 13, 1918. This photograph was censored and released on June 10, 1918.
