Anna Politkovskaya, controversial, outspoken Russian journalist and critic of the Russian government regime of Vladimir Putin and his policies in Chechnya, at the Edinburgh International Book Festival on Sunday 14th August 2005, in Edinburgh, Scotland. Anna Politkovskaya, 48 years old, was shot twice and murdered October 7th 2006 in her Moscow apartment. Her killing is thought to have been a contract killing, the 3rd in Russia in past three weeks. She was the mother of two children. Politkovskaya rose to journalistic fame with her outspoken criticisms of the war in Chechnya, and was one of few journalists, to enter the Moscow Theatre, as a negotiator, in 2002 when Chechen terrorists held the occupants hostage.
