The plaque reads Placed by the Doane Family Association of America to commemorate the 350th anniversary of the Pilgrim Settlement at Nauset in 1644 In that year seven families removed from Plimouth plantation to form the community that was incorporated in the the town of Eastham in 1651 We remember these Pilgrim Settlers and the many generations of their descendants when we gather here Bangs Cook Doane Higgins Prence Smalley Snow
