Caption: Ser'xu, Sichuan, China - Aug 2002. A Yak race at the Ser'xu Horseracing Festival in the former Tibetan kingdom of Kham in Eastern Tibet. The festivals are one of the remaining vestiges of the great clan gatherings, annual meetings where nomadic tribes would gather to settle disputes over land, leadership and who had the fastest horse or in this case, yak. Held once every three years, the Ser'xu festival is the biggest and most prestigous in Eastern Tibet.
