Thailand: The old Rubber Store House on the Huai Yod Road (now deserted), Trang Town, Trang Province, southern Thailand. The specially designed roof helped air the rubber while protecting it from the harsher elements. Trang has been a trading centre since at least the 1st century CE. It grew to prosperity between the 7th and 13th centuries during the Srivijaya period and remains an important commercial town today. Rubber, palm oil and fishing are the mainstays of the town's economy. Tourism is making an increasing impact as Trang’s Andaman Coast and islands are developed and popularised.
