Doctors attending a dying man. Artwork from 'Opus Chyrurgicum' (1565) by the Swiss alchemist and physician Paracelsus (1493-1541) showing a number of doctors around a dying man. Originally Philippus Aureolus Theophrastus Bombastus von Hohenheim, he renamed himself Paracelsus (better than the Roman physician Celsus). Paracelsus travelled widely, absorbing the medical knowledge of many cultures. He also tried to find a magical medicine or elixir of life.
