At its foot is theGirard Avenue Bridge, an elegantiron structure, the work of Clarke,Reeves & Co., of the Phoenix IronWorks, which connects the Eastand West Parks. This bridge wasopened for travel July 4, 1874. Itis locHD feet long by 100 feet wide,and 52 feet above mean water consists of five spans constructedof Pratt trusses. The roadway isof granite blocks, and is 67J feetwide, and the sidewalks, each 16.}feet wide, are paved with slate, withencaustic tile borders. The balus-trade and cornice are ornamented Continental Congress, officers of thearmy and navy, and many of theforemost citizens met frequentlyunder this hospitable roof. Here
