Overlooking the Arabian Sea this is the imposing Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Bombay, now Mumbai. The hotel was built by Indian Architects Roasaheb Vaidya and DN Mirza in 1898 and opened in 1903 for just 17 guests. During the First World War the hotel became a hospital. In 1947 Lord Mountbatten announced Indian independence from Britain from the hotel. More recent history the hotel has been visited by the great and the good from Queens and Presidents, to film and pop stars.
