Mercury with the head of Argus; Gods and Goddesses. Mercury as a messenger from the gods blowing on two trumpets with the cut head of the Shepherd Argus next to his feet. The inscription Mercvris Divvm QVI Fert Responsa by Avras indicates Mercury in his role of messenger who carries the answers of the gods on the wind. Copy to a print of Giovanni Jacopo Caraglio.
