Andanother fact is well known, that the red fox is avery prolific breeder, and might in years extendits species all over these States at least. The gray fox is said to range across thecountry south of the red fox, and both speciesoccur together on the extremes of their FOX HUNTING. II l)ut that the gray fox does not extend much northof southern Pennsylvania, and even there it isscarce. On the Pacific coast it reaches zoologists consider the Pacific coast formto be distinct (F. Californicus) with various sub-species. The black, silver, and coon foxes are notconsidered as distinct specific forms. We do notfind any form but the red fox in eastern Penn-sylvania. The gray fox is a poor runner as comparedwith the red fox, but can climb a tree like acoon. PUPPY RUN AFTER A GRAY FOX. Within a recent period one of the membersof the Rose Tree Club having been presentedwith a gray fox, brought him in his box to the<:lub-house, and it was decided to train three ofthe eight-months-old hound puppies on him, thathad never scented a fox. The puppies andthe fox were taken, by the few members whohappened to be present, to a neighboring field,where
