Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos assists a student with a Rope Core Coding activity during the Celebrating Women’s History Month – Getting Excited About STEM event at the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum, Tuesday, March 28, 2017 in Washington, DC. Rope Core Coding consists of beads and wires where a 1 in binary code is programmed by threading the wire through the bead and a zero in binary code is coded by threading the wire around the bead. This coding method was used by Margaret Hamilton's team at MIT to program the memory of the Apollo Guidance Computer.
