Cascades of Hueznar waterfalls in San Nicolas del Puerto, Seville. Andalusia, Spain. The Huéznar river is born in an underground spring near San Nicolás del Puerto. From here, the river flows downhill until it reaches the imposing Cascadas del Huéznar, listed as a Natural Monument by the Junta de Andalucía and a Biosphere Reserve under UNESCO protection. It is one of the most beautiful places in the entire Sierra Norte de Sevilla and an incredible oasis in which to take a dip and, incidentally, mitigate the sweltering heat of the Andalusian summer. The area is somewhat shady, surrounded by a large forest mass made up mainly of willows, ash trees, poplars, elms, and other shrubs on which climbing plants grow, forming a dense green blanket that provides shelter for a varied birdlife.
