The Cocoon Nebula, also catalogued as IC 5146, Caldwell 19 or Sh2-125, is a reflection/emission nebula in Cygnus constellation. Associated to the nebulosity is a star cluster. The celestial complex lies at about 4000 light-year from Earth and it spans 15 light-year. The dark lane that surrounds the cluster and projects westward forming the appearance of a trail behind the Cocoon is the dark nebula Barnard 168. This image was created from photographic material taken with the metre Oschin Telescope at Palomar Mountain Observatory, forming part of the Digitized Sky Survey 2.
