Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of fungi (purple) growing on pollen grains (yellow) which have been removed from a bee colony. Bees use protective salivary enzymes to preserve pollen grains. As these have been removed and the pollen has been exposed to air, fungus has begun to colonise the grains. The scale shown in the bottom right is given in micrometres. 100 micrometres is equal to millimetres.
